Clairaudients

(rockin the hand on mah hip like I just don't caaare)

(The afternoon sun at my boyfriends house is just glorious, and I'm absolutely  in love with photographing my outfits in his backyard. The area has a really great rustic feel to it)

(awkward photo taken whilst adjusting my tee)

(Let me tell you, it was about 90 degrees out when these photos were taken, and in no way was I happy about wearing this thick knit cardigan. I was burning up the minute I put it on, and being in direct sunlight wasn't helping either. Alas, it had to be done for the sake of proper style blogging. I did it for all of my lovely readers, yeah!)

(can we just talk about how ridiculous my face/arms look in this picture? derpin' it up like a pro)

hat, forever. sweater, h&m. crop tee, vans (thanks to my bf). romper (worn as shorts), unknown. sunglasses, ray ban "vagabond". jewelry, assorted.

Wow, five whole days and not a single post? I think that's a record breaker. Seriously sorry about the lack of bloggin', I've been spending my time transitioning into an academic pace for the new school year. There have also been a lot of bedroom renovations these past few days, with a new duvet cover, a decorative pillow to match my lavender walls (I've actually been meaning to paint them, though I've decided I'll work around the color, since it's a nice mood lifter), a metal shelf to put all of my film cameras on (believe me, there are a LOT), and some awesome sheer curtains for my closet. Hopefully there will be a new bed frame in my future as well as a lovely charcoal colored vanity. I went a bit Ikea crazy with my friend Travis (you can keep updated with my day to day activities via twitter), and decided that changing out all of my current furniture is a must. At a good price with such chic findings, why not? Well...maybe right now isn't the best time, seeing as I just spent an arm and a leg (throw in a kidney as well) on school books and art supplies for the semester. Oh well. At least my birthday is soon(ish)? Now the question is: do I want new furniture, or the lovely Sigerson Morrison loafer/flats? Such a difficult decision...
Anyways, onto the outfit. It was the second day of school, I was lazy and woke up at 5am after four hours of sleep, it was going to be extremely hot that day, blah, blah, blah, etc etc etc...to sum it up: I was being lazy and picked out my clothes in about two minutes. Maybe even less, who knows. I wanted to wear something super comfortable and cool enough for the afternoon, but warm enough for my 6am departure (thus the knit cardi). This outfit fell into all the aforementioned categories, so I ran with it. Hopefully I won't be having anymore lazy day outfits, as I love pondering my wardrobe options for a bit before I decide on what I want to wear.

Heartbeats

This run down shed is actually right behind my boyfriends house, and I really love the look of it paired with my outfit posts! I'm sure you'll see more of this backdrop in the future.

One of my favorite parts of this dress are the little abalone buttons located at the waist. It definitely gives a vintage feel, as I doubt any current designers would adorn their clothing with such details. My boyfriend enjoys taking off center photos, and it's hard to convince him to do otherwise. Oh well, as long as I'm fully in the shot, right?

My war face, sup y'all. The only photo of my full outfit, apologies for the intensity of my facial expression.

Currently: sitting in the library between classes, vibing to Heartbeats by The Knife. This band is so intensely amazing, when I listen to their tunes I don't even know what to do with myself. Arm flailing and foot kicking would be an accurate action to perform right now, though I'm not sure that's appropriate for a quite room full of students...
Anyways. This dress is the one I wrote about in the last post! It was a lovely gift from my always beautiful mother, and when I say gift I mean I stole this out of her closet (love you mom!). It's a vintage piece, and she hasn't worn it in years so I thought I could give it a try. This dress almost hits the floor when I'm wearing it, which surprises me since I'm a half of a foot taller than my mother! It's also a few sizes too big, though I couldn't help but wear it anyways. Since I'm currently taking clothing construction/patter-making classes this semester, hopefully I'll learn to tailor clothing to fit my body, including this dress! As far as the hat goes, I caved and decided to buy it from h&m. I was planning on buying a higher quality hat, though this one will work until I find one that I truly love. The camel color is perfect for fall, and it's better than wearing a beanie every day in the winter.
Super excited right now, since my boyfriend and I are about to go grab a slice of pizza from a local pizzeria! I love the occasional junk food days, and this will be one of them. Mmmm.

In The Details.

This outfit was something I wore to work (don't mind my ridiculously tired/morose facial expressions, it was early in the morning and I wasn't feelin too hot), and since I have a dress code of black and white, I thought I could mix up my look with some funky jewelry and ridiculously bright, odd nails. The idea of doing half one nail polish color/half another dawned on me when I couldn't decide what color to paint my nails. I though "heck, why don't I just do both?"...and I did. Hooray! It was super easy, and sort of adds to the color blocking trend that has been going on this summer/upcoming fall.

(again, ignore the face! I look like part zombie/hungover mistake/malnourished. oh well...)

(bracelets, h&m. watch, great grandmothers. rock ring, h&m. triple finger ring, forever. color blocked nails, diy.)

(button up, gap. cardigan, american apparel. trousers, h&m. boots, h&m.)

(I'll probably be doing this [and other funky designs] with my nails ALL THE TIME. Be prepared.)

Currently: on campus (today's the first day of fall semester!), lounging on a bench in the blistering sun. Wearing a floppy hat today was a wonderful idea, as I can avoid eye contact with everyone (I'm too tired to function) without even trying! I'm also wearing this lovely vintage floral maxi dress from my mother (hopefully I can get a few shots of it for an upcoming blog post!), and I absolutely LOVE it. I'm going to leave this post shorter than I'd like; I've been up since 5am, so my day already feels half over. It's not. Going to try and get some food and more coffee, of course, and I'll talk to all you lovely people later!

sidenote: I BOUGHT A PAIR OF RED PANTS! Wow wow, maybe I'm a bit too excited...nah. They're not the exact ones I want, though they were a lot less than the ones I was originally looking at. I was actually able to get three pairs of pants, red, green and black, for less than one pair of Joe's! All the pants were bought from Zara. I highly suggest checking out their store if you're in need of a neon fix, because they can definitely help you with that.

Fall Wish List

Hey all! Thought it was about time for a post not focused on me. I get tired of seeing so many pictures of myself, so ta daaa! Here's a post of my cravings for fall (not even just fall, but things I cannot afford in general). I'm far too indecisive with clothes and most often I buy clothing on a whim, but when it comes to accessories I tend to have my eyes set on specific items. As you can tell with the pictured clothing items, they are red, red, red. I am slowly becoming obsessed with all things red, which is odd since I promised myself I would never wear the hue again (working a job with a dress code that forced me to wear said color every day built up a hatred for its boldness). When it comes to jewelry I'm often biased towards donning gold tones only, though this trend is slowly changing.

Top from left to right: Coat, Theory Sonoa Wool. Cuff, "Wiig", MR x Dannijo. Bag, Alexander Wang Emile Tote (I LUST FOR THIS). Bracelet, Gorjana harbor chain. Red Jeans, Joe's (perfect pick-me-up for bleak winter days!). Crab Ring/Pendant and Cube ring, Elizabeth and James. Boots, Isabel Marant Dicker Boot. Brown leather tote bag, Coach x Net A Porter. Metal Collar Necklace, "Aram" MRx Dannijo. Flats, Belle by Sigerson Morrison (the perfect work/errand running shoe, need need neeed).

Side note: The MR x Dannijo metal collar is calling to me hardcore, I cannot stop thinking of all the different ways I could wear it! And please oh please, can someone get me all of these items for my upcoming birthday? I would be yours forever.

New In Town

(hat, forever. sheer shirt, gap. maxi skirt, gap. sunglasses, ray ban. medium carry-all leather pouch, american apparel. shoes, h&m.)

(faux snakeskin bracelets, h&m. watch, great grandmothers. string bracelet w/ metal button, gap. rings, h&m.)
I've begun to appreciate excess amounts of bracelets again, hooray! The only negative thing is that it's very easy to lose these bracelets. The button snap ones fall off like no other, and since I bought them last week I've already lost two. I guess it's time to invest in some with sturdy snap closures!

It looks like I'm cocking my neck to the side, but I swear I'm not. It was the wind I tell you, the wind!

Out of focus photo of my awesome new boots. It was the only one I had, and they're too wonderful not show all of you!
If you live near h&m, go grab yourself a pair. They're only $24.95, full price! They also come in brown, for those who prefer a more fall inspired color. I'm contemplating going back and getting them in the other color as well, they're just too good to pass up! The noise the heels make when you walk is oh-so-perfect, as well.

Checkin myself for ticks and whatnot. Since the brush is high, I don't want to get any critters stuck in my shoes!

Front picture of the awesome new boots, y'all.
If you're a frequent visitor of le blog de Danielle (if this is the case, I love you SO MUCH), I'm sure you've noticed a few changes! Bigger pictures, more italicizzzed and bolded fonts (trying to get more personal, giving a bit of a "voice" to mah words, man!), and a new header! Since I'm (fairly) new to blogging, I really haven't figured out my whole blogger persona yet. My posts are usually snapshots of my outfit, and a small paragraph about the random things going on in my life. Well, that's all changing, starting now
Anyways: I'm starting school in less than a week! Three days, to be exact. Since I will once again have no life once school starts, I've been going to parties like no other these past two weekends. Last night was no exception, and it was a blast all around! Highlight of my week: after a long exciting night, I woke up this morning (exhausted needless to say) to a large latte courtesy of my friend, Travis. He is seriously the best, I love him. I'm definitely enjoying what summer has to offer. Currently, I'm listening to Rodrigo Y Gabriela, eating an  spinach omelet in my pajamas (YUM) and writing this for all of you lovely people to read. I'm going to another party tonight (Indiana Jones inspired, khaki and army print, anyone?), though since today is my day off, I'm going to be lazy and sleep all day, maybe watching some really cheesy television as well. Stoked on life. Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday!

Slight Night Shiver

hat, forever. sunglasses, ray ban. dress, secondhand. thigh highs, h&m. shoes, forever. jewelry, great grandmothers/secondhand/flea market

(me, pre-curtsy)

Golden hour is always my favorite time to go out and snap photographs. The orange hue from the sun is so rich and vivid, I eat it up every time. When I shoot film (which I haven't been doing often, as of late) golden hour provides the best shooting conditions. Within the past year I've stopped using film, though I don't know why! I loaded a new roll of Portra film on monday, and I'm already 17 shots in. I'm so excited to finish off the roll and see the resulting pictures. My favorite thing about film is viewing the pictures at the very end. Most often my photos don't turn out the way I planned, nonetheless they are always so nostalgic! I'll make sure to string together a post of my favorite photos once I get the film back.
On another note, school is back in session next Tuesday! This fall I'm attending a different junior college, one that has a fashion studies program (yay!). I'm taking three fashion studies classes, and I'm actually really excited for all of them! I'm also taking an art history and speech class, though all in all my course load for this semester will probably be easier to keep up with than last spring. Once I'm back in class, it will probably be harder to keep consistent updates (I know, I know. Excuses!) though I'm going to try my best for all of my stellar followers! If you took the summer to lay back and relax, I hope you're enjoying your last few weeks off!

Mustard Knit

mustard knit cardigan, h&m. blouse, secondhand. PU leather-front leggings, h&m. platforms, forever. sunglasses, ray ban gradient aviator.

I've been looking for the perfect mustard knit cardigan for so long now, and I've finally found one! So glad that I did, with fall creeping in I have every reason to stock up on the fall must have colors. Am I too excited for fall? Maybe. It's definitely my favorite season, and I can't wait to start donning chunky sweaters, thick scarves and winter shoes. Still on the hunt for some great boots, I'm hoping to get a pair soon!
As for my day to day life, I've been enjoying the summer heat with midnight swimming and some great social gatherings. Even though summer has been so relaxing, I'm absolutely stoked on starting school again. Time to get those intellectual juices a flowing. I hope all are enjoying their summer months as well!

Fancy Free

(oh hey guys what's up, just monkeying around)

cardigan: h&m // dress: urban outfitters // t-straps: urban outfitters // sunglasses: ray ban "vagabond" // nailpolish: opi "lucky lucky lavender"

This strapless dress was given to me as a gift at least two years ago, and I had never worn it until this day. I was never a huge fan of the way it emphasized my chest, though I now realize that the fit is really lovely! I actually threw this outfit on in just a few minutes as I was in a rush, regardless, I'm feeling the summery youthful vibe it emanates.
The only negative about this dress is that it does NOT work well in windy weather. As I was walking to grab some coffee with a few friends, a large gust of wind startled me and all of a sudden, the lower portion of my dress was flipped up around my waist. WELL HELLO THERE, UNDERGARMENTS! As if that wasn't awkward enough in the presence of my friends, some nearby folks happened to see my wardrobe malfunction as well. All I could really do was chuckle it off, raising my hands in an "oh well" gesture. The bystanders laughed it off as well, and I quickly ducked into the coffee shop, in hopes of missing any other blasts of air.
We've all had our share of embarrassing moments and with mine I feel it's better to acknowledge it, laugh and move on, instead of pretending nothing has happened.
Hope all my lovely followers are doing well! xox

Cat Claw

blouse: h&m // cardigan: secondhand // maxi skirt: american apparel // sunglasses: ray ban // shoes: secondhand, kenneth cole

Bought these shoes a year ago at a rummage sale (the same one that I got the cardigan pictured above at). I make an effort to go every year, and there is never a time when I leave empty handed. I can't even explain how much I love these shoes; I would wear them more often, though they are slightly too tight (sad face).

(me and my new friends of the gift shop, they were quite "lively")

Enjoyed an afternoon over at the California Academy of Sciences for my friends birthday last week. I'm so glad I finally got the chance to go, as I've been meaning to for quite some time. It was even more spectacular than I thought! The aquarium and rainforest exhibit were so intriguing, and though the humidity in the rainforest made me feel like I was swimming through air, I enjoyed every minute. The main attraction right now is "snakes and lizards", with dozens of different reptiles everywhere you turn. The only disappointment was that I didn't get the chance to sit in on the planetarium viewing. If you're near San Francisco and have yet to visit, I would highly suggest you go! Make sure to get there early, it takes at least a few hours to see everything.

D.A.R.L.I.N.G.

cardigan: secondhand // dress: secondhand // tie: secondhand // shoes: forever // purse: secondhand // sunglasses: ray ban // lip stick: mac, russian red

Stopped by a rummage sale the other day and picked up some lovely items. The dress, cardi and tie in the outfit above were all purchased at said rummage sale! I also bought a lovely kimono like jacket, a sleeveless lace blouse, a white embroidered chiffon blouse and an oversized "composition notebook" print inspired dress. Can't wait to wear all of my new finds, I've been thinking of endless ways to mix and match them with my current wardrobe.
